Here's the "weekend" so far.
Sunday I was supposed to play trivia with Chris, but we discovered that on Sundays during football season they have a game called QB1 going, where you watch a football game and try to guess the plays before they happen. This is far inferior to trivia, so we decided to scrap the idea and go some other time. Instead, I went over to Cory's and we played DDR and such. Before that, I attempted to make shrimp etouffee, but ended up with something that tasted more like shrimp with lobster sauce. I think the person who wrote the cookbook I used likes things even blander than I do, because this is the second recipe I've used from it that I've found too bland.
Today I checked out another one of Utah's glorious scenic byways, Alpine Loop. The scenery was very nice, but I think the next time I drive through it, I'm going to have to take some Dramamine or something. Wuss? Absolutely. Later in the day I went for some pho and then watched Schindler's List.

It appears that many of you people in Houston took my suggestion and turned up "September" as loud as you could, considering where Rita actually made landfall. I'm pleased that there was significant weakening before it hit land. Only time will tell what the impact will be, though it'll definitely be less than Katrina.
A word of advice to all of you: when somebody from out of town says that they're going to jump into the Great Salt Lake, don't bet them that they won't. Because they'll do it, even if there are dead birds all around. See, I doubted Fitz and he showed up with about 20 pictures of himself in the lake, and I had to buy him rum. Well, at least he didn't ask for Dom Perignon.
Things with the new system are going smoothly, despite the radiosonde's tendency to hit the side of the hatch whenever there's a moderately strong north-ish wind. We'll figure out a way to stop that from happening soon enough, and in the mean time we'll just hope that the thermistor doesn't hit the wall. Overall, the system is very cool and easy to use, and certainly an improvement over those 8088s.
Well, I'm at the beginning of my three day weekend, as I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday morning. Of course, I'm then working eight straight shifts, but you don't see me complainin'. After two more training shifts, I'm going to be on my own. Do you think I can handle it? As far as weekend plans go, I don't have many (yet). I have a couple of Netflix movies to watch and a couple of books from the library I could read. There might be trivia at some point, and I'm tempted to check out another one of those scenic byways because the weather looks like it's going to be very nice. We'll see what happens.
In other news, the planning schedule came out and it appears that I lucked out. I have Thanksgiving off, along with the three days following it. Additionally, if I take two days of annual leave, I'll have seven days off in a row. So, where will I be then? If you guessed Dallas, you are correct.
Oh, and I got the Iron and Wine/Calexico EP at the beginning of this week, and I do like it, but I must say that the Opera singer guy on "He Lays in Reins" sounds really out of place.
New Boston Legal on Tuesday ! Hooray.

Today was a busy day... but we start with yesterday:
Went up to Toys R Us with Amanda and Lisa to get Ben his birthday present. I *wanted* to get him Hardy Boys action figures, but they don't make them. Sooo... we found a Bruce Lee action figure that I thought he'd think was cool so we picked that up and a Jacqueline (from WWF) action figure that was just really funny. I mean, the thing was totally disproportionate. Its boobs were like size Fs and then its back had this curve thing going on and it just looked wrong. But it's really funny. After that we ran up to CD Source and I got a John Wesley Harding single (actually it just had one song on it, but it's a great song and the cd it's on doesn't come out until August 29th).
Ew.. a Yo Yo Ma commerical is on the Weather Channel. Anyway.
Then we went to CD World and I listened to some CDs but didn't buy anything since I was low on funds, but Lisa got Sisters of Mercy or something. Next we headed to Whole Foods where Alex works because he was supposed to be working til 1030. We got there at like 1020 but he'd already left. Boo hoo.
So let's talk about today. Today was band practice which kicked a lot of ass. We get better each time and I'm really proud of the music we make. It's what I've been wanting to do since I learned to play drums. I've been in these metal bands, these angsty Courtney Love wannabe bands, but I don't like that kind of music. I like what we're doing. We have a lot of variety but it's all really good. After three practices I can tell this is the best thing I've ever been in.
So then we left practice at Thad's and headed home for a sec, and then to Ben's house for his party. We went and watched Godzilla 2000 which sucked so bad that it was really good. Go see it, you'll understand. Then we went back to Ben's to watch anime and stuff. I can't say I'm a big anime fan, plus I'm alergic to Ben's cat... so I didn't have as much fun as I should have. But ben appeared to like the gifts so that makes me happy. And now I'm home.
Tomorrow I have to work at noon. I'm working with Shannon. I've never worked with her. Usually every Sunday I work with Lisa but Friday was her last day soooo... Shannon used to work for the company but left awhile ago. Lisa had worked with her before and said she was cool. We'll see. And hey, if I don't like her I'll just keep myself busy. I don't make $6.50 an hour for nothing.
Then monday is school, which reminds me: I have to do my pre-cal homework. But now is sleepy time.

One week of school done, a score or two to go...
I think it went well. All my teachers are cool. They all like me (I think)... most of them got my last name right. Not a lot of homework. Mostly fairly simple concepts.
MIP orientation was boring, and I STILL don't have a job interview (I'm supposed to have one for next week)... everyone else does but like, two other people. Here's what happened:
Well they assigned me to WFAA, which made me very happy since I watch channel 8. I'm a weathernerd... anyway, it took them until TODAY to realize that they didn't need anyone for weather. So... they're going to see where else I would fit. (umm... anywhere I can stare at Scott Sams.. hahahahaha...) As long as I'm in the newsroom environment I'll be a happy bunny. They may also put me at TXCN, which is the cable news channel. I might be able to do some weather work there (but no Scott Sams... oh well, I think I'll live)... but I think they could have told my MIP sponsor earlier if they didn't need any weathergeeks.
So tonight me and my loving sister will probably hang out with Lisa somewhere. She leaves for Wisconsin next week which is going to be kind of sucky since she's been a friend for five years. But there's the internet and we can keep in touch that way. I also have to get a birthday present for my friend Ben whose birthday party is tomorrow evening, and tomorrow during the day I'll be practicing with my band, the Blush Response. That should be great because I love the music we're doing. I can't wait until we have completed songs and fun stuff like that. I've been out of playing in a band for about a year. I didn't know how much I missed it. It's also cool that we can practice at Thad (the guitar player's) house... because the time to practice at my house is limited. So it's all good. Sunday I work. And Monday there's more school.
But now it's time to rest. I'm sort of in this school mode, but not really. A benefit though... it only takes me ten or fifteen minutes to get to sleep as opposed to 45 minutes to an hour or more, which can be really frustrating. Because I like to go to bed kind of early (if you consider midnight during the summer early), and I guess my body thinks it's too early so it takes awhile. Now since I'm getting 8 hours as opposed to 10 or 11 or 12, I hit the bed at 10 or 10:30 and I'm asleep fairly soon afterward. I like that. Less tossing and turning and... thinking about the day overly.

Another day... another day of school.
had a quiz in pre-cal... it was ok. Basically, we're reviewing stuff from Algebra II. Thankfully I remember most of it. Same goes for physics, review review review. Most people forgot most of it so that kind of thing has to be done.
First draft of my resume is all done and printed. I went with option two. It took me about 20 minutes to print it at school because I had to find a computer that worked. Yay. I've already thought of stuff to improve on it so i'll be going through that fiasco again.
My English teacher has this thing with making comments about the shirts I wear it appears. This is the second day in a row he's had something to say. Yesterday I was wearing my 'I see dead people" shirt. Trendy, dorky, stupid, whatever. I like the shirt, I loved the movie. I wear it. So he says, "I see dead people? Pretty scary" Then he's taking roll and he gets to my name and says "Amie... who sees dead people." Quite funny to hear. For lack of a better explanation, he talks very much like... an English teacher. Anyway, today I have on my Weird Al shirt. So he walks up to me and asks, "Who are these people?" To which I reply "Weird Al Yankovic and his band." and he says "oh, I have his album." "Which one?" I reply. "The first one." He says. I wouldn't have thought he'd have one, but now that I hear it, it makes a lot of sense. I figure after I've been in the class for more than four days I'll know him better. Or something.
So I watched Joseph Liebercrap last night. Not that I have much against him, but Joseph Liebercrap sounds so funny. He spouted off BS, basic stuff. Then Tommy Lee Jones spoke too. In Amanda's words: "Tommy Lee Jones?! TOMMY LEE JONES?!?!!?" That about sums it up. Tonight I get to watch Al Gore. Excitement. Not really.
And I wish Spike Jonze could direct my home movies, to rip Amanda off, as I tend to do.
Now however, I must eat. Byeeeeeeeeeee!

Ok, Amanda demanded I get my ass a journal, so here I am...
Let's see... went to school today, went home, went to my MIP meeting. I forgot my MIP notebook so that kind of sucked, but it happens. I still don't know when my interview is for WFAA cuz the person up there still hasn't told Mrs. Branum (the MIP sponsor). I really want to know when my interview is.
Speaking of MIP, I should be starting my resume now. I'll get to that eventually. It's due Monday, but if I have a draft in, it's that much better. Thing is that I have the formatting stuff for it on THIS computer, but not on the computer that can actually print. So I have a few options:
1) Do it on the other computer without extra special formatting. Result: A printed copy in less time, but crappy looking.
2) Do it on this computer. E-mail it to myself, print it at school. Result: A better looking copy, but we're not SUPPOSED to use e-mail at school. Since when have I cared about that?
3) Do it all at school. Result: Too time consuming. I'm lazy.
Two sounds best to me.
Or I could figure out what is wrong with my floppy drive. But also there's the fact that the software isn't on the other computer. Boo hoo. Maybe one day I'll get someone to install office on the other computer.
Well, I hope my resume turns out OK.
Anyway, tonight for government class I have to watch Joseph Liebercrap at the Democratic National Convention. Just want I want to watch, more politicians try to sway people by using their emotions on them. Super. But first I have to find a biography of Sr. Liebercrap. Excitement. Joy. Fun.
I saw part of the new Barenaked Ladies video today. It was cool. I am eagerly anticipating the new record and Oct 4, when they come to town.
I've wasted enough of your time and mine. Now to work on my stupid-ass resume.
bye.
